ACTIVITES ASSISTANT

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for assisting with the planning, execution, and evaluation of the activity program.

REPORTS TO: ACTIVITY DIRECTOR

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES :

1. Assist with the residents’ activity program as directed by the Activities Director, including assigned programs (crafts, bingo, discussion, music group, etc.). May assist in writing the monthly newsletter articles, purchasing approved activity supplies, etc.
2. Keep residents informed of scheduled programs and help with required documentation. Promote participation and resident satisfaction.
3. May be required to transport residents in a safe manner to activities and professional appointments within the guidelines established by the retirement community.
4. Assist the Activity Director in creating new programs, trips, etc., according to the residents' needs and requests.
5. Support other departments as part of the team.
6. Treat all residents with dignity and respect.

EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS :

1. Activity programming/recreation training and/or related experience preferred.
2. Must enjoy working with the elderly and all who associate with them. Must be able to interact with residents who are highly susceptible to common illnesses without exposing them to additional health risks.
3. Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner and have the communication skills needed to interact with the residents.
4. Always maintain a professional appearance and attitude and continually strive to improve resident satisfaction.
5. Must have a valid driver’s license.
6. Ability to assist residents on and off the bus, van, or car and may be required to move or arrange furniture for activities and/or climb, stoop, lift, bend, kneel, push, and reach to carry out activities of a minimum of 50 pounds.
7. This position is subject to both inside and outside environment conditions. Activities occur inside and outside the facility.
8. Requirements are representative of minimum levels of knowledge, skills, and/or abilities. To perform this job successfully, the incumbent will possess the mental abilities and aptitudes to perform each duty proficiently.
