Job Description
Qualified candidates should be highly personable, focused, and hardworking, with excellent attention to detail. Please note that this role can require significant physical labor including lifting and carrying heavy books and relocating them between storage and office locations. This role offers the opportunity to gain experience in bookstore operations as well as the many facets of art book publishing, including sales, distribution, and marketing.
Responsibilities include:
Bookstore - Maintain organization and inventory of three book storage locations
- Receive and account for book deliveries from the warehouse and vendors
- Liaise regularly with gallery assistants at the front desks to ensure they have books needed on hand
- Maintain the bookshelves at the three gallery front desks, ensuring they are always fully stocked
- Assist with operational tasks and maintenance of the bookstore
- Help prep for, set up, and run events and programming at the bookstore
- Fulfill web orders and prepare packages for shipment/messenger
- Cover shifts for the bookstore as needed
- Support book photography and caption writing needs for social media channels
- Assist in building and maintaining comprehensive inventory database
Publishing - Help prepare tip sheets for forthcoming publications including research and writing projects
- Prepare content, text and images, for Amazon A+ product detail page customization
- Perform market research on artists and authors using Edelweiss and Bookscan, and create slides to present the information
- Research marketing and sales leads
- Update our third party exhibitions calendar to be shared with sales reps
- Update and maintain our artists in museum collections lists
- Research and update retail contacts for our contact database
Fall internship cycle runs from approximately Tuesday, September 3rd - Friday, December 13th. To ensure that our interns have a well-rounded and educational experience, we ask for a commitment of three months. Internship hours would be Tuesday-Saturday, 9:45 AM-6 PM, with occasional extra hours for events. Internship is paid at NYC minimum wage of $16/hour. Candidates must be residents of NY, NJ, or CT.
