Job Summary: The University of Wisconsin - Madison is looking for an Interior Designer to join our University Housing Facilities team! This position designs student and community spaces throughout our large campus of over twenty residence halls, eight dining locations, and three apartment communities, including furniture inventory management and space planning. Responsibilities: Assesses and meets client design requirements, designs, coordinates renovation and refurbishes interior spaces, and collaborates with other construction professionals to ensure design solutions align with client needs and meet regulatory and professional building standards. 25% Designs, and renovates interior spaces according to aesthetic preferences, structural requirements, and established policies and procedures 25% Assesses, interprets, finalizes, and provides consultations to clients regarding design plans, expectations, and the execution process 15% Communicates and coordinates with internal and external stakeholders and construction professionals to complete assigned projects and adhere to established timelines 15% Schedules logistics and secures resources for the procurement of necessary project materials 5% Oversees and leads move crew operations 5% Leads inventory management of University Housing furniture, fixtures, and flooring materials 10% Assists with space management and design planning for all University Housing spaces, including student residence halls, dining areas, apartments, and offices; prepares purchasing specifications within state purchasing requirements Tasks: Assists with resident move in/out operations Communicates with residents, staff, and outside vendors regarding projects Performs duties in a student residential living environment, a highly diverse student and family housing community, and in dining spaces; including in resident-occupied spaces, as well as vacant and common areas Coordinates and oversees the work of vendors, outside contractors, and physical plant staff in University Housing facilities Facilitates expanded housing, office, and apartment transitions Maintains furniture inventory of resident room and community spaces Provides support and assists as needed in the implementation of plans and procedures in the event of an emergency Supervises and leads the work of student workers Participates in developing annual budget planning Institutional Statement on Diversity: Diversity is a source of strength, creativity, and innovation for UW-Madison.   • Two (2) or more years of experience working with customers on space planning and design
  • NCIDQ Certification
  • Experience in university, multi-unit residential, or commercial design
  • Experience with Revit or AutoCAD
License/Certification: Preferred Drivers License - Valid and Meets UW Risk Management Standards Work Type: Full Time: 100% It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some flexibility may be available for occasional remote days after completion of the initial 12-month evaluation period, depending on operational needs and projects. Appointment Type, Duration: Ongoing/Renewable Salary: Minimum $77,750 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications This is a full-time appointment. The starting annual salary is $77,750 or higher based on qualifications and includes a competitive retirement and benefits package. Additional Information: Primary schedule for this position is 7:30am to 4:00pm, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekends and evenings as needed for projects and peak move-in time. Schedule alterations as operations and position expectations demand. Schedule will be determined upon hire. A criminal background check will be conducted on finalist(s).
