The Division of HIV Health is recruiting temporary part-time Study Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors for the Philadelphia National HIV Behavioral Surveillance System. Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors will administer the survey and conduct blood-based HIV testing. All study activities will take place in the field. Employment is expected from May-November 2025 but may end sooner depending on the pace of study recruitment. Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors are also expected to attend a week-long training prior to data collection and must be available to work evenings and weekends. Interviewers/HIV Testing Counselors will report to the NHBS Project Coordinator/Field Supervisor.
Responsibilities include screening potential participants for eligibility and obtaining informed consent, conducting in-depth, standardized surveys with study participants, collecting specimens for rapid blood-based HIV testing via finger stick, providing HIV counseling, maintaining data integrity, accurately documenting participant information, preparing and maintaining interview and testing materials and supplies, assisting with ongoing formative research as necessary, participating in required trainings, and assisting with other related duties as assigned.
Skills required include experience in engaging effectively with people who are at increased risk of HIV preferably in Philadelphia, ability to adhere to detailed survey research protocols, ability to comply with strict protocols for confidentiality, strong attention to detail, strong oral communication skills, ability to learn and use computerized interview programs, proficiency in Spanish is an advantage, but not required, and HIV testing and counseling experience preferred.
Education requirement: High School Diploma.
Salary: $23 an hour.
