Job Title: Marine Electrician
Job Description

Marine Electricians are tasked with installing, testing, and repairing marine cables and equipment. They are responsible for the installation and connection of lighting and electrical power systems, as well as troubleshooting and repairing shipboard and facility electrical systems. This position requires proficiency with hand and power tools, various testing equipment, and the ability to read blueprints, drawings, and schematics.

Responsibilities
  • Perform submarine and surface ship shipboard installation and manufacturing work.
  • Remove, route, and install electrical cables, including fiber-optical connections and terminations.
  • Troubleshoot and test electrical and electronic systems.
  • Read blueprints and use math skills to position components for installation.
  • Plan layout and installation of electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures based on job specifications and local codes.
  • Connect wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components.
  • Test electrical systems or continuity of circuits using testing devices.
  • Inspect electrical systems, equipment, or components to identify hazards, defects, or the need for repair.
  • Prepare sketches or follow blueprints to ensure conformance to building and safety codes.
  • Diagnose malfunctioning systems using test equipment and hand tools.
  • Advise management on equipment operation hazards.
  • Train workers to install, maintain, or repair electrical wiring, equipment, or fixtures.
  • Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand tools or power tools.
  • Install ground leads and connect power cables to equipment.
  • Maintain records or files, prepare reports, or order supplies or equipment.
  • Perform physically demanding tasks such as digging trenches or moving heavy objects.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies by operating floodlights or generators.
  • Assist with set-up and preventive maintenance of equipment.
  • Learn to operate equipment, including forklifts and manlifts.
Essential Skills
  • High School Diploma or vocational degree with relevant experience.
  • At least 5 years of working experience in electrical installations or 3 years with a vocational degree.
  • Experience in building connectors, terminating cables, splicing, and routing cables.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of electrical theory and troubleshooting using meggers and multimeters.
  • Ability to work in varied positions and confined spaces.
  • Experience with electrical testing and troubleshooting.
  • Willingness to work overtime, second shifts, and travel as required.
  • Ability to obtain SECRET level security clearance.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Apprenticeship, Associate Degree, or trade school certificate in Engineering or related field.
  • Experience with military electrical wiring and cable systems.
  • Experience with fiber optics, pinning connectors, and building/assembly cables.
  • Desired but not required certifications: Cableway Certification, Multi-Pin Connector Certification, Fiber Optic Certification.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $22.00 - $30.00/hr.
