Job Description: Model Maker Fabricator
QUALA is seeking a skilled and hands-on Model Maker Fabricator to join our prototyping team. This role involves executing precise prototyping tasks, solving design challenges, and bringing concepts to life in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will combine problem-solving expertise with craftsmanship using a variety of tools and technologies.
Key Responsibilities:

• Develop creative solutions and troubleshoot design, fabrication, and assembly issues.
• Fabricate and assemble parts using manual and automated processes.
• Operate manual shop tools (mills, lathes, drill presses, saws) and work with sheet metal.
• Create, modify, and interpret 3D CAD models (SolidWorks, Creo).
• Maintain tools and machines, ensuring calibration and adherence to safety standards.
• Operate desktop-scale 3d printers.

Qualifications:

• Strong understanding of manufacturing and prototyping processes.
• Proficient in CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo).
  • Demonstrated ability to create complex 3D models in Solidworks or Creo
• Skilled in operating manual tools and machinery including lathes and mills
• 3D printing experience setting up and running a variety of printers
• Ability to set up and operate Waterjet, Laser, Sheet metal and manual machines with minimal or no instruction
• Small and large part sheet metal fabrication
• Creative problem-solver with attention to detail and the ability to adapt to evolving project needs.
• Experience creating 3D forms and designs from planar materials
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Experience:

• 3+ years in prototyping or model-making.
• Familiarity with CNC machining, 3D printing.
• BA or BFA in Industrial Design
• Experience leading or working in an educational shop or lab
• Graphic Design, Fine Art or Photography experience with design and printing on various media

Nice to Haves:

• Experience with waterjet cutting, laser cutting, 3D printing, or Adobe Illustrator.
