Staff Scientist Posting Summary The University of Vermont seeks a full-time staff member to support the Climate Measurements Center of Excellence (CMeC) at the Gund Institute for Environment and the research of Dr. Gillian Galford.
Provide critical support for research, methods development, data analysis and management, strategic collaborations and new opportunities, and operational activities of the CMeC. Work with a dynamic interdisciplinary team advancing solutions in climate science and socio-ecological systems, particularly within the fields of food systems and water resources. Conduct mixed methods approaches, including qualitative and quantitative research survey development, deployment and analysis applied to social and environmental sciences. Lead aspects of project research and design, including methods development, analysis protocols, and documentation for training others (e.g., publications, presentations). Make adjustments and solve non-complex problems independently and elevate complex or critical issues to their supervisor. Lead and/or contribute to peer reviewed articles, present at conferences/meetings, and communicate with external partners (e.g., presentations, briefs). Help with strategic planning and special projects, such as identifying and applying for new grant opportunities, while development skills in grant management. Work collaboratively in a team-based science setting, including cross-sectoral collaborations, including representing our work at meetings as well as attending regular internal meetings. Supervise students and/or part-time temporary employees.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)• Master's degree in environmental field, including study of sustainability and management required
• Proficiency using relevant software (e.g., NVIVO, R) and tools (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite) required
• Two to three years minimum experience working in research or academic environments required
• Experience in climate science, socio-ecological research, or environmental data analysis highly preferred
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in remote team
• Strong organizational and project management skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong people skills and ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to supervise junior team members (students and temporary employees)
Desirable Qualifications Anticipated Pay Range $65,000 - $75,000
Other Information Special Conditions A probationary period may be required, Contingent on continued funding, Occasional evening and/or weekends required (if non-exempt position, may result in overtime), This position is eligible for full-time telework in accordance with the university telecommuting policy, Background Check required for this position
