Archaeologist – Cultural Resource Specialist Location: Puget Sound Region, Washington Company: Leroy Surveyors and Engineers Position Summary Leroy Surveyors and Engineers is seeking a qualified and motivated Archaeologist to join our team in the Puget Sound region. The successful candidate will perform cultural resource investigations and compliance studies in support of land development, transportation, and infrastructure projects. This position requires a strong understanding of federal, state, and local cultural resource regulations, including Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) and Washington State Department of Archaeology and Historic Preservation (DAHP) standards. Key Responsibilities Conduct archaeological field investigations, including pedestrian surveys, shovel testing, monitoring, and site documentation. Perform background research, literature reviews, and records searches to identify and assess cultural resource sensitivity. Prepare professional technical reports, survey summaries, and cultural resource assessments that meet DAHP and federal standards. Evaluate archaeological and historic site significance and provide recommendations for avoidance, protection, or mitigation. Coordinate with project managers, clients, regulatory agencies, and tribal representatives to ensure timely and compliant project delivery. Supervise and support field technicians, ensuring accurate data collection and adherence to safety protocols. Maintain detailed field notes, mapping, and photographic documentation using GPS and GIS tools. Ensure compliance with all applicable cultural resource management laws and professional standards. Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or closely related discipline. Minimum of 3 to 5 years of professional experience in cultural resource management (CRM), preferably within the Pacific Northwest. Comprehensive knowledge of NHPA Section 106, NEPA, and DAHP procedures. Demonstrated experience preparing clear, concise, and defensible cultural resource reports. Strong organizational, communication, and technical writing skills. Proficiency with ArcGIS, GPS data collection, and digital mapping systems. Ability to perform fieldwork in diverse environmental and weather conditions. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel throughout the Puget Sound region. Preferred Qualifications Previous experience conducting CRM studies in Washington State or the greater Pacific Northwest. Experience coordinating with tribal governments and regulatory agencies. Familiarity with environmental permitting processes and interdisciplinary project teams.
