Job Description

Ceramic Tile Installer Location: Madison, WI Work Location: Multiple locations Job Type: Full-time Responsibilities Pick up installation paperwork and materials at the warehouse Drive to various job sites Carry tools to the job site Carry product to the job site Ventilate the work area as much as possible Move and replace furniture Tear out old tile and flooring Clean up the area immediately after the old material is removed, preparing the area for tile installation Make sure the area is smooth; apply plywood or Masonite and waterproof it, if needed Inspect the surface to be covered to ensure it is firm and dry Cut and shape tile to fit around obstacles and into odd spaces/corners Use hand and power cutting tools Mix, apply, and spread plaster, concrete, mortar, cement, mastic, glue, or other adhesives to form a bed for the tile to adhere to using a brush or trowel Align, straighten, and level tile using levels, squares, straightedges, and/or spacers Let the installation set completely and dry Finish and dress the joints with grout Wipe excess from tiles using a damp sponge Qualifications High School Diploma required; some college preferred Proficient knowledge of tile installation with 3–5 years minimum experience Possess the proper tools for installation Reliable transportation Valid driver’s license Core Competencies Customer service — Knowledge of principles and processes for providing exceptional customer service Mathematics — Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications; understand and communicate numerical data; calculate simple figures and amounts Mechanical — Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance Production and Productivity — Knowledge of production processes, quality control and other techniques for maximizing effective installation Time Management — Managing one’s own time and the time of others Equipment Selection — Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job properly Reading Comprehension — Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work‑related documents Active Listening — Giving full attention to what other people are saying, asking questions as appropriate and not interrupting at inappropriate times Making Decisions and Solving Problems — Analyzing information and evaluating results to choose the best solution and solve problems Job Competencies Interpersonal Skills — Relates to others, listens for understanding, asks questions for clarity, and conducts conversations with customers and employees that build credibility and lead to positive business results Mechanical Aptitude — Ability to properly use tools and equipment safely and effectively in order to carry out the duties Work Standards — Ability to display positive work habits to include arriving on time, meeting deadlines, using time effectively, minimizing missed workdays, and producing a quality installation for customer satisfaction Abilities — Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry materials weighing up to 70 lb. frequently Ability to push, pull, lift, and carry materials weighing up to 100 lb. occasionally Ability to retain bending and/or squatting position consistently (60% of the time) Ability to retain position on hands and knees (60–70% of the time) Benefits Medical insurance Dental insurance Short Term Disability / Long Term Disability Life insurance 401K Program Flexible Benefits Plan Paid vacation and sick leave Discount on products and services Employee discount Flexible spending account Health insurance Paid time off Referral program Vision insurance Background Check & Drug Test Required This position requires a background check and drug test.
