Job Description

We are hiring a Director to lead Slack's cross-platform design system (Slack Kit), accessibility initiatives, and agentic interfaces across desktop and mobile platforms. The position requires deep expertise in design systems, accessibility standards, and cross-functional leadership to drive quality and consistency at scale. Slack has built an enterprise grade product with the care and attention of consumer experiences. With a decade of history, people love Slack for the attention to craft, customization, and expressivity.

We appreciate designers and leaders who think deeply, speak clearly, love collaboration and feedback, and have an excellent collection of animated gifs.

At Slack, we have a positive, diverse, and encouraging culture we look for people who are curious, inventive, and work to be a little better every single day!

What you'll be doing

  • Lead and evolve Slack's cross-platform design system (Slack Kit) to deliver consistent, efficient, and accessible experiences across desktop and mobile platforms.
  • Partner with Product, Engineering and Design teams to evangelize existing capabilities and develop new ones that enable fast decision making while maintaining reasonable consistency and quality.
  • Oversee and champion accessibility initiatives and standards compliance, ensuring Slack meets WCAG requirements and provides inclusive experiences.
  • Evolve systems design reviews and governance processes to maintain high quality standards and prevent UX inconsistencies that impact NPS
  • Guide the development and maintenance of comprehensive documentation covering components, usage guidelines, and contribution standards.
  • Lead cross-functional teams across Design, Engineering, and Product to push boundaries while maintaining system cohesion and high-quality experiences for our customers
  • Champion design system adoption through enablement programs, office hours, and educational initiatives

What you should have

  • 10+ years of product design experience including working design systems, accessibility programs, and platform-level design initiatives
  • 4+ years of managerial experience (ideally on teams working on design systems and design tools)
  • A people-first mindset toward systems work, recognizing that the best systems teams empower rather than constrain
  • Proven track record of building and scaling design systems that serve both desktop and mobile platforms
  • Deep understanding of accessibility standards and experience implementing them at scale
  • Strong technical acumen with experience bridging design and engineering through component documentation, design tokens, and systematic approaches
  • Experience establishing and running design governance programs that maintain quality while enabling team velocity
  • Track record of successful cross-functional leadership and ability to influence design decisions across multiple teams
  • Excellent communication skills with ability to articulate complex system decisions to varied audiences
  • Experience mentoring designers and engineers on systems thinking and accessibility best practices
