Job Description

Quality Assurance Technician

We are seeking a dedicated Quality Assurance Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for sampling ingredients, products, and packages, as well as monitoring and testing them according to established procedures. This role requires a keen eye for detail and a commitment to maintaining quality standards in our production environment.

Responsibilities

  • Sample ingredients, products, and packages and monitor and test them according to established procedures.
  • Monitor processes to ensure consistent operation.
  • Organize and test samples of ingredients, final products, shelf studies, or customer projects.
  • Label and maintain samples of ingredients or products for retains or shelf-life monitoring.
  • Document all collected data neatly and precisely for management review, using charts, graphs, and tables.
  • Maintain labs and other work areas and equipment in an orderly fashion.
  • Communicate any inconsistent results or observations to management immediately.
  • Monitor plant compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).
  • Inspect and swab equipment and environment, communicating problems to appropriate technical services or operations personnel.
  • Test research and development samples for food safety and specification compliance.
  • Recommend methods to improve processes, reduce waste, and enhance productivity, quality, and consistency.

Essential Skills

  • Experience in quality assurance and testing.
  • Knowledge in food science, food quality, microbiology, and biology.
  • Ability to conduct line checks and work effectively in a lab environment.
  • Strong organizational skills to efficiently manage work tasks and time.
  • Proficiency in written and oral communication and computer skills.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in life sciences is preferred, but not required.
  • At least 6 months of experience in food or quality if no degree.

Work Environment

The role involves physical activity in a production environment, including climbing small ladders and standing for multiple hours. The position is a 2nd shift role, Monday to Friday from 3 PM to 11:30 PM, with potential work on Saturdays. During slow periods, the hours may reduce to 30 hours per week. Dress code is casual, requiring clean long pants, sleeved shirts, closed-toe shoes, and a white lab coat. Opportunities to move to different shifts may arise for committed long-term employees.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Altoona, Iowa.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $26.00/hr.
