We are looking for people who are passionate about building strong, sustainable developer tooling for the Slack Android, which is used by millions of people every day. The Android Developer Experience(DevXP) team enables feature engineers at Slack to tackle complicated problems quickly without needing to reinvent the wheel. Were looking for lead engineers who specialize in Android tooling and have prior experience in leading Android dev tooling.
As an DevXP engineer, you like building developer workflow tools and work towards making Android development best at Slack. You excel in leading others and derive joy from mentoring and growing other Android engineers. You set a high bar for the technical design and code quality of your team. You demonstrate exceptional ownership of not only the area of your team, but across Slacks entire Android codebase. You have a can do demeanor and nothing is beneath you or outside your responsibilities because you do what it takes to deliver the highest quality code and the most impactful features. You are self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action in fast-paced environments. You love to build new things and thrive in ambiguity and even failure.
10+ years of experience building and maintaining complex Android tooling from CI to CD
Deep expertise with Kotlin, Gradle, and Android framework components
Experience with RxJava, Coroutines, Flows and dependency injection frameworks (e.g., Dagger, Anvil)
Experience with AI tools like Claude Code, scripting (Python/bash etc)
Ability to monitor and improve KPIs such as CI stability, TimeToMerge, and build time metrics.
Deep familiarity with the Android Studio ecosystem, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing tools
A related technical degree required
