WHAT IS MAUNDY THURSDAY?

Maundy Thursday is the Thursday before Easter. Traditionally, this is the day that many Christians remember two important events near the end of Jesus' earthly life: 1) The Last Supper. 2) Jesus washing his disciples' feet.

These two events remind us of Jesus' incredible love for people and how that love ought to be an example for us to follow as we humbly serve others. We are calling your attention to Maundy Thursday in hopes that you will  participate in the Lord's Supper (communion) and take time to lovingly serve others during Holy Week.

THE CHALLENGE

Here is what we are hoping you'll do for Maundy Thursday. First, watch the video that will be posted below. It presents a fuller description of Maundy Thursday and the two key events that it centers around. It also challenges people to commemorate it by doing two things: 1) Sacrificially serving someone in a surprising way. 2) Taking communion in community. After you watch the video, do the challenges. You can do them by yourself, but we think it will be better with friends, family, or in your small group
JOHN 13:1-5
"It was just before the Passover Festival. Jesus knew that the hour had come for him to leave this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.  The evening meal was in progress, and the devil had already prompted Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had put all things under his power, and that he had come from God and was returning to God;  so he got up from the meal, took off his outer clothing, and wrapped a towel around his waist.  After that, he poured water into a basin and began to wash his disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel that was wrapped around him."
LUKE 22:19-20
"And he took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them, saying, 'This is my body given for you; do this in remembrance of me.'  In the same way, after the supper he took the cup, saying,'This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which is poured out for you.'"

THE VIDEO

Check back here on the week of Easter (April 2-9) to watch the video.

HOLY WEEK

Maundy Thursday is a cool tradition, but it is just a small part of celebrating what Jesus did on the last week of His earthly life.  We hope you'll join us for these other events. Click an image below to learn more.
